Beauty

Beauty is not in the face,
But in the light of the heart,
Beauty is what we embrace,
But not we take apart.

Every person has beauty,
No matter what he or she looks like,
Everyone is a somebody,
And everyone has their strikes.

Beauty is something you can't make,
You can't put make-up on,
And have people look and take,
And think that nothing is wrong.

Beauty is what you see,
Inside others hearts and souls,
Nothing is for free,
So don't be fortold.

Analysis:

1. What is the poet trying to say?

In this poem, the poet is trying to imply many things such as beauty is not about what you see on the outside, not having the ability to hide who you really are, everyone is special and being yourself. Beauty is not about what you see on the outside was shown when the poet said, "Beauty is not in the face, but in the light of the heart". This line insinuates that true beauty is not about what you see on the outside, it's about what you see on the inside because putting on make-ups or altering your looks will not make you more beautiful. In some instances, real beauty might not be seen by the eyes but a heart will always go beyond what is obvious. In other words, the heart will see what they eyes cannot. Not having the ability to hide who you really are was shown when the poet wrote, "Beauty is something you can't make. You can't put make up on". This line proved  that even if you put make-ups on your face, it will not hide what you are on the inside as your true personality will always show when you are dealing with different situations. Every single one of us is special was shown when the author said, "Everyone is a somebody and everyone has their strikes”. This line indicates that you just have to be yourself; you don't need to change who you are just to fit in because no matter what you think about yourself, you will have this one unique characteristic that only you possess. Being yourself was shown throughout the poem because the poem's main idea implies that beauty on the outside doesn't reflect beauty in the inside because beauty in the inside will always take over what's on the outside as inside beauty is everlasting while outside beauty will eventually fade. Therefore "nothing is for free, so don't be foretold" as the author said, which implies that nothing comes easy so might as well just be yourself and people will appreciate you more.

2. What emotions or feelings are you experiencing?

This poem makes me feel disappointed and happy. If you analyze it, it will give you two different feelings, depending on how you look at it. This poem makes me feel disappointed on some people because this poem tells us a lot about those women who changes their looks because they only think that the beauty that matters the most is the one on the outside. It tells you that they will try or they will change who they are because what they always see is the things that other women have. Therefore, they don't appreciate the things that they do have and they're not contented, as they don't realize that they have their own set of characteristics that sets them apart from everybody else. It shows you that some will change their whole lifestyle just to fit in because in their minds they think that the only way to be happy is to achieve what they see on others. On the other hand, it gives me a feeling of joy as this can uplift someone's soul because this poem implies that even if you might not have the outside beauty, if you're beautiful in the inside, you don't ever need to worry about anything as that beauty would be with you forever because in the end we will all age and our faces will change but what's on the inside will forever be there. Furthermore, you can never compare outside beauty to a golden heart. Therefore, a picture of a golden heart best describes this poem for me as it tells you to be happy for who you are and for what you have as beauty isn't measured on the outside appearance, it is measured on what you are on the inside.

3. What poetic devices are used?

There are three poetic devices that were used in the poem and those were repetition, connotative and rhyming. Firstly, repetition was shown when they mentioned the word "beauty" at the beginning of the lines several times. Secondly, connotative was shown when the author said "Beauty is not in the face, but in the light of the heart". This is an example of connotative, as the word "light" doesn't really mean luminosity but goodness, kindness or a pure heart or attitude of a person. Lastly, rhyming was shown in every stanza of the poem as almost every first line rhymes with the third line and every second line rhymes with the fourth line throughout the poem which suggest a rhyming scheme.

I believe this image is beautiful because nature is such an amazing part of the Earth. When I think of nature, I think of rainbows, flowers and trees. I consider rainbow a fine piece of nature and beauty because it gives you a sense of appreciation for the environment even more. It is so lively and it adds colours to the naturally beautiful piece of land. The second example of nature that I consider a fine piece of nature and beauty are the flowers because it symbolizes a new start. When the flowers start to bloom in spring, it means that a new life will occur again and different kinds of interactions will soon begin. Thus, making nature even more captivating. Furthermore, it will add a whole new set of colours and things that will make the place even more exquisite. The last example of nature that I consider a fine piece of nature and beauty are the trees because it gives you a feeling of home. It shelters different animals, insects and other living things that make you feel a sense of belonging when you see it. Furthermore, it never fails to make you realize that it has an everlasting beauty that comes along with it as it just keeps on growing. Thus, making you realize how strong it is as it was able to withstand all of the storms that it encountered. I could connect nature to a house as it has a lot of interconnecting parts that makes it a beautiful piece of nature. It has flowers, trees, animals, insects and even rainbows that add to the beauty of it. While a house has people, rooms and decorations that adds to the beauty of the entire house. These makes them both a beautiful place to go because all of their parts flows like a river, in which will give you a feeling of undeniable joy when you see or look at it. Therefore, nature is my top example of beauty as it consists of rainbows that adds beauty to it, flowers that symbolizes a new start and trees that gives you a feeling of home.
